Tigray Trek
Although near the equator, much of Tigray sits on a high plateau raised by the tectonic forces that created the East African Rift so much of it lies at 5000-10,000 ft. which gives it a perfect climate for trekking. Time has eroded this landscape into a series of dramatic canyons. We took a trek of several days passing through farms and villages, being housed and fed by the local people in the Villageways tradition.
