Ethiopia is rich in religious tradition. The last Emperor (Haile Selasssie) was said to be a direct descendant from Menelik - the first King of Ethiopia- the son of King Solomon of Israel and Makeda the Queen of Sheba. Menlik is supposed to have stolen the "Ark of the Covenent" from Jerusalem and it is said to reside still in a rather nondescript side chapel to the main church in Axum. Many of these images were taken at Lalibela which has a collection of ancient Christian churches, or at Gheralta with many hollowed out rock churches.
