Axum

Axum is an ancient capital city of the Aksumite Empire which ruled from 400BC to 10th C. AD. Most remarkable features here are the obelisks or "stele", thought to be about 1,700 years old and believed to mark burial sites. The other main site is the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion with its side chapel said to hold the original Ark of the Covenant.
