Near Sechelt a narrow neck of ocean known as the Skookumchuck Narrows connects the Jervis inlet with the Pacific Ocean and the flow of water through the narrows with the incoming and outgoing tides produces spectacular standing waves with currents some of the fastest in the world- up to 16 knots. This attracts kayakers from all over the world.
